The Radiant Kessie for a Radiant Mother, and other Mother's Day Tips
As everyone is mostly aware - Mother's Day is coming up in just a few short days! If you are like me and have had trouble finding the right gift for your mom, try the gift of pampering!
This week's color of the week is Kessie by Julep. It is Julep's polish that is inspired by the color of the year, Radiant Orchid.
This polish went on great! It is now one of my favorite colors in my collection! You almost don't need two coats of color to make this polish look fabulous. It is shiny and shimmery but is also still very sophisticated. I used Kessie on my mom this past Friday when I treated her to an early Mother's Day pedicure. You can purchase this color for your mom (or even get her a polish subscription) at Julep.com.
But enough about polish (AS IF!) let's talk about Mother's Day. Sometimes the best gift you can give a mom, or mother-like figure in your life, is just your time. Maybe you could make an appointment for the both of you to get manicures or pedicures where you can sit next to one another and catch up? My mom and I do this all the time. Just a few weeks ago I called and said hey - I need my toes done, let's meet. We sat, chatted, vented, and had some good bonding time while pampering ourselves.
What about grandma? Spa treatments are great for older folks! Just stay away from clippers, sugar scrubs and intense massages. Instead, add in a paraffin wax treatment to help with arthritis pain in elbows, fingers and toes.
Or add in a gentle hot stone massage to increase blood flow in the feet.
What if I am too broke to pay for such pampering? Then do it yourself! Now I'm not saying the whole sha-bang, but you could take the time to paint your mom's fingers or toenails for her! Maybe throw in a little hand or foot massage.
Tip: If you do want to throw in a little massage, do it before you paint the nails - then make sure to clean the nails with nail polish remover once again to get rid of any lotion residue that could be stuck on the nails. This will make her polish last longer. For tips on how to provide the best at home manicure, check out my previous post "A Lasting Home Mani" from January 4th.
Dads, you could even set up a little kit (base coat, top coat, color polish, cotton balls, remover, lotion) and help the kids give mom a manicure or pedicure! Just don't forget paper towels or towels your family uses for messy things to have on hand for spills and such ;] . You could even cut up a cucumber for moms eyes! Moms will love showing off their fabulous nail job - as well as telling the story!
Just remember - it isn't about how much money you spend on Mom this Mother's Day; it's about the time and heart you put into it that will make the day special!
Happy Mother's Day!
Be Radiant!

Thanks Mom!

Guess what husbands! You can join in on the fun too! Don't be a party pooper and just give the gift certificate (although, that does work just as well!). Men can enjoy pedicures just as much as women - they just end their service before the polish starts! Hint Hint, this is also a good way to show an interest in something your wife enjoys, Wink Wink. Plus, it's about to be beach season guys - get those toe nails groomed for sandal weather. Nobody wants to see claws on your toes...
See, Al Roker does it!
